News: Lee Gaskins, Head Chef at The Terrace Restaurant named Northamptonshire ‘Chef of the Year’

At the prestigious Northamptonshire Food and Drinks Awards dinner last night, the finest of the county's Food & Drink was celebrated at Holdenby House.

The Awards, in their third year, attracted more entries than ever before from all corners of the county and celebrated all that is great about the Northamptonshire's chefs, dining venues and local food and drink.

The awards ceremony was hosted at Holdenby House in Northamptonshire and helped all entrants, judges, sponsors, mystery shoppers, category partners and Northamptonshire ‘foodies' celebrate the awards in style. Held in a large marquee in the stunning grounds, the diners were treated to local drinks and canapés before sitting down to a sumptuous three course meal prepared by local Michelin Starred chef, Adam Gray.

Beating off stiff competition, Lee Gaskins, Head Chef at The Terrace Restaurant at Highgate House was awarded the 'Booker Chef of the Year'! The Terrace Restaurant at Highgate House, the Number One Hotel in Northampton (TripAdvisor) was also a finalist in the 'Restaurant of the Year' category.

The cook-off to decide the winner of the ‘Booker Chef of the Year' took place in the impressive kitchens at Silverstone and in the style of ‘Ready Steady Cook', each chef was presented with a basket of produce provided by category sponsor Booker, as well as the two key Northamptonshire ingredients of Harpole breast of lamb and strawberries from Newton, from which they had to create two mouth-watering courses.

After receiving the award, Lee Gaskins explained "I was thrilled to get through to the cook off but to be named Northamptonshire ‘Chef of the Year' is an honour. The awards helped celebrate local produce, something I have a great passion for, and to win this award against such talented competition has helped recognise Highgate House and The Terrace Restaurant and their contribution to the local community.
