News: Kids “Came and Dined” With Highgate House
21 Nov 2010
Sundial Venues have launched a brand new Children's menu, created for kids, by kids. The innovative ‘for kids, by kids' menu initiative is tailored to the family-based weekend Bed & Breakfast and restaurant business for which Sundial Venues cater. The award-winning Sundial Group brand has become known for continued commitment to providing an outstanding level of customer service and fantastic cuisine, through flexibility to produce exactly what the customer desires.
Highgate House in Creaton, Northamptonshire, recently held a competition, named ‘Kids... Come Dine With Us' asking Children to submit healthy and exciting meal suggestions to create a menu that appeals to children, as well as meeting their parents' approval.
On Saturday 20th November, following a collection of submissions from Children at neighbouring Creaton Primary School and Children of Sundial Group's staff, Highgate House hosted a complimentary lunch-time tasting event for all entrants. A selection of six popular and exciting suggestions was freshly prepared by the venue's Head Chef, Lee Gaskins, which the entrants then tasted and judged. Meals such as Chicken Fajitas, 4oz Sirloin Steak and Pasta with Fresh Homemade Tomato and Basil Sauce came out on top. Along with the young judges' other highly regarded meals these will now permanently feature on the Sundial Group Children's menu (click to view the menu), available at Highgate House in Northamptonshire as well as Sundial Group's additional country house venues Barnett Hill in Surrey and Woodside in Warwickshire.
At the ‘Kids... Come Dine With Us' event, the chefs used only farm-assured meat, free range eggs and gave preference to fresh local produce, as they will continue to for the new Children's menu, in the same way that they currently do on all of the venues' main menus. Sundial's talented team of chefs will not simply be opening and reheating packets of frozen turkey twizzlers for young leisure guests.
The children who took part in the competition were thrilled to have an input and to have their opinions considered, "They never have ‘proper' meat on Children's menus. It's always nuggets or fish fingers. Just because we are children doesn't mean we don't like proper meat... I love steak and chips", stated a Pupil of Great Creaton Primary School, aged six. The event was a great success, a guest aged 9 commented, "It was a lovely day and lots of nice food was eaten, so a big thank you to the chef and helpers."
The initiative proves Sundial Group's commitment to exceeding the expectations of guests, as well as demonstrating the business' interest in sustainability and forming links within the community through always giving preference to local suppliers and using only high quality produce.
