News: Bronze medal for promising young chef

Victor Chan, chef de Partie at Woodside, picked up the bronze medal in his first ever cookery competition, Salon Culinaire International de Londres at Hotelympia.

Salon Culinaire is a world class culinary competition with an unrivalled reputation across the globe and Victor, who joined our Kenilworth conference and events venue six months ago, received bronze in the Gran Master class for his Belly of Pork & Sticky Rib with puy Lentils. This was accompanied by delicious caramelised apples, spinach and golden beetroot with epice dressing.

Woodside's Orchard Restaurant is open every week for a Traditional Sunday Lunch, offering a delightful dining experience in an elegant Edwardian setting just off Glasshouse Lane in Kenilworth. Orchard Restaurant guests enjoy views of the gardens and lawns at Woodside while choosing from a menu that changes daily, ensuring freshness and variety. The kitchen is accredited by the Vegetarian Society, so creativity and finesse are also present within the meat-free options provided. Being located within Woodside's 32 acres of grounds allows The Orchard Restaurant to also offer something else that other eateries in the area may not be able to provide; ample on-site free parking.

Jerry Toth, himself a highly-decorated chef and respected competition judge, and Lee Gaskins, who has won many awards during his thirteen years with Sundial, oversee all catering at Woodside and our two other UK locations. Lee mentored Victor prior to the event and is delighted that the proud tradition of award-winning chefs at Woodside has continued into another decade. "To be placed in your first competition is a fantastic achievement," commented Lee, with Jerry adding "I have no doubt that he will have a sparkling career in catering and hospitality and all of us at The Orchard Restaurant, Woodside and Sundial as a whole are very proud of Victor's award."
