Woodside, Warwickshire

Employees at Woodside hotel and conference centre in Warwickshire were delighted to raise over £1,000 for the Myton Hospice through their ‘Take 50 challenge’ this spring.

The challenge was to raise as much money as possible over 50 days, starting with just £50, through whatever means necessary.

Just one of many local businesses taking part, Woodside hosted a variety of sponsored events involving employees, customers, friends and family, including: car washes, ‘Wear it red' for Myton days, cake sales, ‘Guess the baby' competition.

Their biggest fundraising event was a 244 mile race, which represented the number of miles between Sundial Group's three venues based in Warwickshire, Northamptonshire and Surrey. The Woodside team tasked themselves with clocking up these miles between them through swimming, running, walking, rowing and cycling over the course of one week in order to raise money through sponsorship.

Kate Freeth, who led the challenge at Woodside, said: "Our fundraising for Myton Hospice this year was met with massive enthusiasm by both staff and customers and we raised over £1,000. Thank you to everyone who donated their time and efforts for such a wonderful cause and for making the challenge such a fun event to be part of.”

The Hospice is a registered charity and receives only a small proportion of its funding from the NHS. It relies on donations and legacies to help raise the millions that are needed every year for its care to continue. This year’s ’50 day challenge’, taken on by 26 local businesses, helped generate a staggering £37,120.29 of additional funds for the hospice.
