500,000 Honeybees Check In at Sundial Group
Highgate House, Northamptonshire, Woodside, Warwickshire
Sundial Group is buzzing with excitement after installing bee hives at each of its three meeting venues.
Over 150,000 honeybees have each arrived at Highgate House in Northamptonshire, Woodside in Warwickshire and Barnett Hill in Surrey, taking up residence in three specially constructed hives within the grounds.
The hives, managed by bio-diversity champions Plan Bee, are part of the group’s ongoing commitment to sustainability and caring for the environment, whilst helping to reverse the decline in bee population. Deemed as the ‘world’s hardest workers’, the bees also reflect Sundial’s values and dedication to its customers.
They will be accompanied by bee-keeping lessons and ongoing support, allowing everyone at Sundial the opportunity to become actively involved with the everyday life of the bees. Each venue will also receive its very own honey produced on-site by the Sundial bees which will be made available to customers.
Bees are tireless pollinators of trees, plants, flowers, vegetables and fruits. Not only are they essential to the health of our eco-system; they are vital to the world’s agricultural economy. 90% of food worldwide is provided by just 100 crop species. 71 of these are dependent on honey bees, so the serious decline in bees in the UK is a threat to future food supplies.
Sundial’s Group’s Managing Director, Tim Chudley, said:
“The hospitality sector is an extremely competitive one, with customers seeking excellence in both service and products. Customers now expect providers to be both ethical and sustainable. Supporting the declining bee population is our way of putting something into the environment, and making use of our extensive grounds. An added bonus for our customers is that they will benefit from enjoying the highest quality honey, made in partnership with Sundial.
Having already chosen BeeKind as our toiletry products of choice across all three of our venues, installing our own bee hives was the next logical step for us. Bees really resonate with Sundial and our hard-working ethos – like us, they get results!”
