News: Sundial Group Chefs Celebrate Culinary Success

2013 has been a fantastic year for food and drink at Sundial Group venues. In the last 12 months we have been awarded for our exceptional cuisine with the venue's chefs succeeding in a number of prestigious local and international competitions.
In February, Iain Miller, Head Chef at Woodside in Warwickshire, was crowned the UK Winner of the International Association of Conference Centres (IACC) Copper Skillet culinary competition 2013. Miller battled it out in a ‘Cook Off' with 8 other chefs to produce his winning dish which was a pave of Balmoral Venison, creamed savoy cabbage, Clonakilty black pudding hash with a sage & pancetta jus.
Lee Gaskins, Head Chef at The Terrace Restaurant, Highgate House, scooped the award for ‘Aspire Chef of the Year' in October at the Carlsberg UK 2013 Northamptonshire Food and Drink Awards. Alongside the submission of a three course menu, Gaskins competed against four other chefs in a cook-off competition where the challenge was to create two courses with a surprise set of ingredients including an unskinned rabbit. This is the second time Gaskins holds the title for the county, having won previously in 2011. The Terrace Restaurant at Highgate House was also a finalist in the ‘Restaurant of the Year' category.
Scott Cawse, Senior Chef de Partie at Barnett Hill in Surrey, also received an award for Best Dessert when he impressed the judges with his take on a warm chocolate fondant at the 2013 Chef's Challenge Competition run by Conference Centres of Excellence. The established competition, now in its 15th year celebrates conference dining across CCE centres nationally.
As part of a major investment programme taking place next year, we will be developing our dining facilities. Developments will include a new bar area and an expanded open kitchen in the Terrace Restaurant, at Highgate House.
