History and Heritage Weekend at Althorp

Our superb 'History and Heritage' package includes full use of our Leisure facilities, a three-course table d'hote dinner on the evening you stay with us, a full English breakfast and complimentary admission for two adults to the House, Grounds and Exhibition at Althorp.

Just a few minutes away from Highgate House, this stunning country estate has been home to the Spencer family for over 500 years. Althorp is blessed with beautiful interiors and one of Europe's finest collections of furniture, pictures and ceramics -; not to mention its stunning gardens and Round Oval Lake.

Althorp opens to the public in July and August, allowing visitors to the estate to marvel at the spectacular reception rooms and hallways that the historic house boasts. In addition to this, there are also two exhibitions on display:

"History of Althorp" Exhibition

The current Earl Spencer is a renowned historian, published on topics ranging from Prince Rupert ("The Last Cavalier") to the Battle of Blenheim and its consequences for Europe. Assembling an exhibition on the rich history of his home was a labour of love whose results are as fascinating as they are enchanting.

"Diana: A Celebration"

The whole world was rocked by the tragic passing of Diana, Princess of Wales in 1997 with an estimated 2.5 billion people watching her funeral and subsequent return to Althorp, her childhood home. Her brother, the Earl Spencer, opened this exhibition so that the public would have an opportunity to remember Diana and her life.
